The Project will help to coordinate
policies at national level to achieve a sustainable transport system, and
enhance capacity of cities to improve mobility with lower CO2 emissions.
Expected outcomes include a Transport Action Plan developed with local
stakeholders, Low-Carbon Comprehensive Mobility Plans for up to four cities, and a Network
for Information Sharing and Co-ordination through the Project website.
The project is funded by the International Climate Initiative of the
German Federal
Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).
The Project is implemented by the United Nations Environment Programme
(UNEP) and the UNEP Risoe Centre.
Local partners include the Indian Institute of Management - Ahmedabad (IIMA), the
Indian Institute of Technology - Delhi (IITD), CEPT University and partners from the target
cities.
The Project was endorsed by the Ministry of Environment and
Forests (MoEF), and will be implemented with close coordination and guidance from
the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD).
The Project began in 2010 and activities are due to be complete by 2013.
