AIACC Project AF-47 Climate Change, Water and Agriculture in The Gambia and South Africa |
|
Home Assessments of Impacts and Adaptations to Climate Change (AIACC) is a global initiative developed in collaboration with the UNEP/WMO Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and funded by the Global Environment Facility to advance scientific understanding of climate change vulnerabilities and adaptation options in developing countries. AIACC is providing financial support to 24 regional study teams to conduct three-year investigations of climate change impacts, adaptation and vulnerability in 46 developing countries.
The URC, in collaboration with the
Energy and Development Research Centre (EDRC), South Africa, and the
Department of Water Affairs, The Gambia, are working together on AIACC
project AF-47, to evaluate the effectiveness of adaptation measures for
specific agricultural case studies in each country. The project is taking
well-established benefit-cost principles and adapting them for use in
estimating and comparing the benefits and costs of projects that reduce the
expected damages from climate change. This framework is being
developed so that it will be possible to isolate the incremental adaptation
benefits and costs of development projects whose primary objectives are
unrelated to avoiding climate change damages. |
