The project aimed at promoting investments in renewable energy
technologies (RET) and energy efficiency (EE) in developing countries
and countries with economies in transition.
To this end the RET/EE Investment
Advisory Facility was created. It provided expert advice to financial
institutions concerning specific investments, and helped bank loan
officers develop the skills to evaluate such projects independently.
The project was implemented by the
Division of Technology, Industry and Economics - UNEP
under financing of the Global Environment
Facility (GEF).
URC was mainly involved in the evaluation of
proposals to obtain advisory services sent by the invited banks. The Centre
also collaborated with UNEP and the
Canada Centre for Mineral and Energy Technology (CANMET) in the
adaptation of a software package for the quick evaluation of EE/RET by loan
officers.
For further information on the advisory
services read the RET/EE Facility brochure.
